Andrew Garfield had quite the year with his success on tick, tick… BOOOM! and Spider-Man: No Way Home, but he’s not stopping there. Just in, we have a new trailer for Under the Banner of Heaven which stars Garfield as a detective trying to solve a murder.
Watch this:
Here’s the synopsis:
A devout detective’s faith is tested as he investigates a brutal murder that seems to be connected to an esteemed Utah family’s spiral into LDS fundamentalism and their distrust in the government.
The series is actually based on the nonfiction book from Jon Krakauer of the same name. Garfield plays the part of Pyre, a committed, Mormon elder who starts questioning his faith when he starts investigating the death of one Brenda Lafferty.
Besides Garfield, the series also includes cast members Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) and Sam Worthington (Avatar). Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and The Winter Soldier), Rory Culkin (The Expecting), and Denise Gough (Andor) are also part of the limited series.
The part of Pyre actually sounds pretty similar to Garfield’s role in Hacksaw Ridge where he plays a religiously devout man who has found himself thrust into a world of incredible violence. There’s also some similarity with Garfield’s other film, Silence. After some critically praised performances from the last year, fans can’t wait to get more of Garfield on their screens.
No release date has been set for Under the Banner of Heaven, but the show is expected to hit FX soon.
