We are now down with the top 24 Idol hopefuls! They have successfully passed the Auditions, Hollywood Rounds, and the Showcase Rounds. But the contestants still need to maintain their spot and show a lot more of their singing prowess. Here’s a recap of what happened during Sunday night’s episode of “American Idol.”
Dominique
The solo performances started with Dominique who sang “Ain’t Nobody” by Chaka Khan. However, it wasn’t the best song choice for Dominique, but since his high notes were excellent, everything went well.
Katy thinks that Dominique’s performance was incredible and Lionel agreed by saying that he was very proud of him.
Layla Spring
Layla showed a lot of improvement and maturity as a singer during her performance of Martina McBride’s 90s hit “A Broken Wing.”
The judges loved what she did, and Katy was so impressed with her. Luke said that the big reason why she is in “American Idol” is that she is “infectious.”
Catie Turner
Catie continues to dominate in “American Idol.” Her strangeness could have helped not to be quickly forgotten by the viewers and the judges as well.
Catie chose to sing “Call Me” by Blondie and just like what the judges wanted to see and hear from her, everything was on point! All the three judges were entirely drawn, amazed, and impressed by her performance.
Dennis Lorenzo
It was not the best performance of the night, but it was okay. Dennis probably picked the wrong song, so he was not able to show the power of his voice.
Dennis sang “Rude” by MAGIC! But if Dennis wants to be in the next level of the competition, he needs to step up his subsequent performances and create his own identity during the “American Idol” competition.
Michelle Sussett
Michelle’s energy always helped her in delivering her song choices especially when she mixes it with dance steps. But during her “American Idol” Solo Performance, Michelle should have stayed calm because she seemed too overwhelmed by the song. It also seemed like Michelle was screaming throughout her performance.
Michelle tackled Beyonce’s “If I Were A Boy,” putting some Spanish lyrics before the ending.
Michael J. Woodard
All of Michael’s performances were great. He always makes sure to deliver an outstanding and memorable performance on stage. And during his Solo Performance, Michael did it again!
Michael sang “Golden Slumbers” by The Beatles. What makes it impressive is that Michael just stood on the stage, delivered the song, and nailed it! There’s no doubt that Michael will be not only a strong contender in the Top 10 but also the next champion!
Trevor McBane
Trevor performed “Way Down We Go” by Kaleo. The song fits perfectly with Trevor’s voice, but it looks like he was not sure what to do with the simplicity. As a result, the song got away from him a little bit.
Johnny Brenns
Johnny knows the capability of his voice. He chose the right song and performed it in a way that people would be satisfied and would be left craving for more. Johnny’s performance inevitably brought a smile to everyone!
Johnny sang Vance Joy’s “Georgia,” and it seems that he gets better every time he performs.
Kay Kay
Kay Kay performed “Love On The Brain” by Rihanna. She has a good range and tone, but it looks like she wasn’t able to show it during her “American Idol” Solo Performance. Fortunately, the judges loved the way she delivered the song.
Brandon Diaz
Brandon tackled one of the judges’ songs and this is none other than Lionel Richie’s “Hello.” All the judges admired his braveness for choosing a risky song, and Lionel was utterly astonished by his performance.
Lionel even said “wow” so it means that Brandon didn’t disappoint the original singer of the song.
Gabby Barrett
It would have been better if Gabby chose a pop or soulful song, but nevertheless, she did well in Maren Morris’ “My Church.”
But if Gabby wants to continue in “American Idol,” she should be able to know the correct genre for her voice and try to nourish and nurture it along the way.
Cade Foehner
Cade delivered a full-on rock performance, and Katy wants more! Well, who wouldn’t be? Cade is pure talent, and he used his ability excellently and amazingly.
Cade sang “All Along Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix for his Top 24 Solo Performance. And the judges said that Cade is a star no matter what happens!
“American Idol” continues Monday, April 10th, with the “Top 24 Celebrity Duets Part 1” at 8/7c on ABC.
