‘American Idol’ Season 16: 'Hollywood Week' Part 2 Recap

The Hollywood Week wraps up tonight in “American Idol” with the final solo performances. Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie will have to decide who among the Idol hopefuls will continue in the singing competition. It’s a tough fight, as we near tomorrow’s Final Showcase and Judgment.

Gabby Barrett

Gabby Barrett, proved to her dad that she is worth supporting. Gabby performed her version of “Ain’t No Way” by Aretha Franklin. To be honest, her Hollywood Week solo performance did way better than her audition piece.

Gabby dedicated her performance to her beloved dad Blase who she knows is still and always present wherever Gabby may be.

Harper Grace

Harper sang an original song called “Rest In Peace.” Based on Harper’s audition, people probably expected something big from her, and she didn’t fail everyone. After nailing it, Harper proved that she could sing and write a song pretty well.

The judges were then totally amazed by Harper’s performance.

Noah Davis

During his solo performance, Noah delivered Kelly Clarkson’s “Piece By Piece.” Noah seemed a bit lost at the start of his performance, but he handled everything well.

Luke said that Noah came in with so much confidence, but also wondered why Noah didn’t come back behind the piano again. Nevertheless, Katy still likes him.

Catie Turner

The judges and the viewers have always loved Catie due to her happy personality. But these are not her only trait that can capture anyone’s attention. It’s also because of Catie’s unique, strange, and strong voice.

For Catie’s Hollywood Week Solo Performance, she sang an original song entitled “Pity,” and it looks like she has a high chance to be on the top spot.

Maddie Poppe

Maddie asked for her dad’s help in choosing a song for her “American Idol” solo performance. But instead of suggesting any famous song, her dad told her to sing an original song. According to Maddie’s dad, the other contestants already have Lady Gaga and Celine Dion, so what the people need now is a Maddie Pope.

Maddie performed “Don’t Ever Let Your Children Grow Up,” which made Katy Perry all riled up. There’s no doubt that Maddie is an excellent and talented singer-songwriter.

Michelle Sussett

Venezuelan dancer and bombshell, Michelle, performed “I’m Coming Out” by Diana Ross. Michelle, however, struggled a lot during her rehearsals because she lost her voice before her solo performance.

Michelle entered the stage with confidence and determination, and despite the problem she has with her voice, the judges gave a standing ovation! Katy even said she is a star.

Ron Bultongez

Recently, Ron received good news. He has finally taken over custody of his two younger brothers. Apart from that, it seems that Ron is doing great in his Hollywood Week Solo Performance.

Ron sang “Home” by Phillip Phillips, which he dedicated to his family.

Trevor Holmes

Trevor also performed “Home” by Phillip Phillips. The judges kept on smiling throughout Trevor’s performance, so this could be enough evidence that he can go to the next level of the competition.

Garrett Jacobs

Garrett lost his voice because he stressed it out so much in the past weeks. Luckily, he sang “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak well. With his voice and looks, Garrett could get a chance to grab one of the top spots in “American Idol.”

Gabbii Jones

Gabbii gave it her all because she couldn’t see herself doing anything else other than singing. Gabbie chose to sing a rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Million Reasons.” Gabbie, however, struggled in her performance either because of the pressure in the “American Idol” Hollywood Week or maybe the song she chose was wrong.

Thaddeus Johnson

There’s nothing more exciting than performing one of the judges’ songs in front of them and the audience. But Thaddeus Johnson proved that he could do it! He sang Katy Perry’s “Rise” and received a standing ovation from all three judges. Katy even thinks that Caleb did it better than her!

Caleb Lee Hutchinson

Just as what all have expected, Caleb sang a country song. But what makes it different from his “American Idol” audition is that he did more than what is presumed of him. Caleb brought a deep-voiced performance on the stage, and he proved that he deserves to be in the top five.

Michael J. Woodard

The judges ended up giving this amateur singer a standing ovation! Michael performed “Maybe This Time” from the Broadway musical “Cabaret.” Katy, Luke, and Lionel were utterly fascinated by Michael’s performance, and Katy threw her chair in surprise and amazement!

“American Idol” continues Monday, April 2nd, with the “Showcase Round/Final Judgment” at 8/7c on ABC.
