Just when you all thought that “American Idol” is gone for good, you’re so wrong. After spanning a total of 15 seasons, ABC is now reporting that “Idol” is returning for another season. Talk about beating it’s own longest-running music competition record, huh?
American Idol’s New Home Network
The show’s host and judges will be announced soon, and we just can’t help but be excited and confused at the same time. ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said in a statement: “American Idol is a pop culture staple that left the air too soon. ABC is the right home to reignite the fan base. We are thrilled viewers will once again share in these inspiring stories of people realizing their dreams.”
“American Idol” concluded it’s 15-season run in April of last year on FOX, it’s previous home network. Trent Harmon was the last winner for the show, joining the powerful roster of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson.
Ryan Seacrest On Idol’s Return
Further details on the new “American Idol” are still unknown. Ryan Seacrest, the show’s longtime host, was recently announced as Kelly Ripa’s new co-host of “Live With Kelly and Ryan.” During the Monday episode of the morning talk show, Seacrest addressed the rumors of the show possibly making it’s return. Seacrest said that he had no idea of “American Idol’s” revival on ABC until last week. It’s also unclear if Seacrest will be reprising his hosting role in the show.
Whether or not the original judges and host will be returning, it’s very likely that the show will reclaim it’s TV music competition juggernaut title, as it obviously started the rise of “The Voice” and “America’s Got Talent” altogether.
“American Idol” was created by Simon fuller and will air on ABC sometime between the next 2017-2018 TV season. FremantleMedia North America will also be back to produce the show.
