There are your usual celebrity cheer-up FaceTime calls and then there are Ryan Murphy and his American Horror Story regulars plotting their regular scarefest. Either way, fans will be glad to know that the FX anthology series is expanding its world and will be getting its very own spinoff.
Murphy announced via an Instagram post that a “one hour contained” spinoff titled American Horror Stories is in the works. Details on the project are sparse. But, according to Deadline, it will serve as a companion anthology series to the mother ship. Each episode will feature its own individual ghost story and will likely be guesting familiar players from the mother show.
Murphy unveiled the news via a screengrab from a zoom call with the cast including Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, and plenty of others. “American Horror Story cast zoom call…where we reminisced about the good times…the spin-off we’re doing called “American Horror Stories” (one hour contained episodes),” he captioned. “When we will start filming the next season of the mothership…and other stuff I cannot print. It was so much fun and I’m glad we caught up. I miss everyone!”

American Horror Story had been gaining a lot of momentum just before the coronavirus pandemic shut down production. Back in February, Murphy announced that Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin was joining the upcoming season of the show. A while later, Murphy unveiled that creepy trailer for the 10th season of the show. It was slated to debut this fall. However, American Horror Story couldn’t escape the pandemic. Whether or not the release date for season 10 has been pushed back or not remains to be seen.
American Horror Story kicked off the “Murder House” installment back in 2011. Since then, the franchise has had nine installments. It has averaged almost 10 million viewers per episode. The series also hit its 1ooth episode milestone with its most recent installment “1984” which featured a campground turned murder ground. It ran for nine episodes and averaged 2.85 million total live viewers. Earlier this year, American Horror Story was renewed for three more seasons which will take it up to season 13. Along with this spinoff, fans can expect a lot. So far, American Horror Story has won 16 trophies and has been nominated for 95 Emmy Awards in the past eight years.
