‘American Horror Story: Apocalypse’ to Compete at 2019 Emmys

American Horror Story: Apocalypse throws its hat in the ring at this year’s Emmys, with one “tiny” difference.

Instead of its usual category of limited series, this season of AHS will be categorized as an ongoing series, according to The Wrap. Its switch of lanes is “due to continuing story threads, characters and actors reprising those same character roles from previous seasons.”

Last year’s American Horror Story: Apocalypse united previous seasons under one shared universe. A number of actors played the same roles from previous installments including season 1 stars Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott. Sarah Paulson also played two of her characters from past seasons.

Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story was the first show that featured a season-length anthology series to compete in the limited series category in 2011. It earned a total of 89 nominations, including four nominations for Outstanding Limited Series.
