Amazon Releases Teaser for ‘A League of Their Own’ Reboot

Tom Hanks and Geena Davis had given us A League of Their Own back in the ‘90s, but now Amazon Prime Video is set to introduce a whole new generation of audiences to an all-woman baseball team.

A League of Their Own evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall’s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball. The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the League and outside of it.

With the original film taking place around the ‘40s, this series is said to be taking place around the same era. While the original film is pretty lighthearted, it looks like this show is going to be taking a deeper dive when it comes to issues concerning race and sexuality.

I have to hand it to the series for landing such A-grade talent when it comes to comedy. Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) and D’Arcy Carden (A Good Place) are comedy rockstars, as well as Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) who looks to be taking Tom Hanks’ role as the new coach. The series has even managed to bring back Rosie O’Donnell, who was in the original League of Their Own.

A League of Their Own premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Aug. 12.
