With Spider-Man in the MCU and Marvel having all these TV series, you’d think that Disney+ has the monopoly on Marvel properties. Thanks to Sony though, Amazon Prime Video is going to be able to play on that Spidey IP.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon has ordered Silk: Spider Society, which will focus on the Marvel character Silk, who was bitten by the same radioactive spider that bit Peter Parker; and now she has spider powers.
The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang will be helming the Silk series, but she will also have help from Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller who are attached to the show as EPs. Here’s the show description:
The series is inspired by the Marvel comics and follows Cindy Moon, a Korean-American woman bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker, as she escapes imprisonment and searches for her missing family on her way to becoming the superhero known as Silk.
Silk is said to be the first of several Sony Marvel TV series that will be coming to Amazon pushing forward. With Sony probably realizing they can’t make a film out of every Spider-Man-connected IP they own, it looks like they’re going the streaming route like Disney+—except they decided to team up with Amazon instead.
I’ll admit, I’m not a big fan of the Venom franchise or Morbius, but with Phil Lord and Chris Miller on board, I think Silk is worth checking out for fans. Hopefully we get a look at the show soon.
No release date has been set for Silk: Spider Society.
