‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Writer Set To Write New ‘Spider-Man’ Spin-off

Sony is expanding its Spider-Man Universe. The studio has tapped Amazing Spider-Man 2 writer Roberto Orci to write an untitled Spider-Man spin-off according to The Wrap.
Details about the project are currently still being kept under wraps. One sure thing though is that the project will be part of Sony’s Spider-Man universe and not the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This includes titles like Venom, Morbius the Living Vampire, Nightwatch, Silk, and Silver and Black. It is unknown whether the project will focus on an already known characters or if it will feature a character who has yet to make their big-screen debut. So far, characters who have already been well-introduced include Tom Hardy’s Venom and Jared Leto’s upcoming Morbius.
Ruben Fleischer directed the first Venom film starring Tom Hardy. And it went on to be a global success reaping $856 million worldwide. Hardy will reprise his role in the sequel being directed by Andy Serkis. Woody Harrelson is coming on as Carnage. The film is set to hit theatres in October. It comes a few months after the release of Morbius on July 31.
Sony’s Executive Vice President Palak Patel is set to over the new film along with the rest of Sony’s Spider-Man projects.
Aside from the Amazing Spider-Man 2, Orci also worked on a couple of other franchises. He has worked on the 2009 film Star Trek. And he has continued to work on its sequel Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond. Orci has also worked on two Transformer films alongside his writing partner Alex Kurtzman. And last but not least, the writer has also written Mission: Impossible III. After the Amazing Spider-Man, Orci switched focus to writing and producing for TV. His credits include Fox’s Fringe, Hawaii Five-O, Scorpion, Sleepy Hollow, and Alias.
