Director Shawn Levy has mostly been at the helm of family-friendly properties with films like The Adam Project and Netflix’s Stranger Things, but he’s set to reveal a dramatic turn with the upcoming mini-series adaptation of All the Light We Cannot See.
Watch the trailer here:
We don’t have any dialogue for the trailer, but we do have an official synopsis that breaks down the story. It reads:
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE tells the story of the extraordinary power of human connection. Over the course of a decade, this limited series interweaves the lives of Marie-Laure Leblanc, a blind French girl taking refuge with her uncle during WWII, and Werner Pfennig, an brilliant German teenager with an expertise in radio repair. Through a shared secret connection, they find faith in humanity and the possibility of hope.
Besides Ruffalo, the miniseries also includes Hugh Laurie, Marion Bailey, Lars Eidinger, and Louis Hoffman. This show also introduces us to newcomer Aria Mia Loberti, who is said to be an actual blind actress and was cast despite not having much acting experience.
With Levy usually bringing in family fun films, I’m very curious to see what kind of story he would deliver with a serious wartime drama. With him also attached to direct the third Deadpool movie, maybe this series will give him a chance to really lean in on material that isn’t so kid-friendly.
All The Light We Cannot See streams on Netflix this coming Nov. 2.
