First Look At Alicia Vikander As Lara Croft In 'Tomb Raider' Reboot Trailer

Warner Bros. just released a first look at the “Tomb Raider” reboot starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft.
However, this isn’t the Lara Croft that audiences know from the days of Angelina Jolie in 2001’s “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.” Instead, we get a much younger Lara—a struggling college student and bike courier. Not exactly the veteran tomb raider we know and love.
Still, the spirit of the iconic series can still be seen in the action-packed scenes and treasure hunts. The reboot focuses on the origins of Lara and how she earned the name “Tomb Raider.” She searches for her missing father (Dominic West) and makes her way to a fabled tomb off the coast of Japan.

Vikander’s co-star Daniel Wu initially released the trailer on his Instagram but Warner Bros. later removed it. Before it was taken down, the new trailer highlighted Vikander in some pretty awesome action scenes. We see Lara dodging deadly swinging blades, leaping across a chasm, and even escaping a sinking boat. See it for yourself below:

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Vikander promised fans that the new film would honor Tomb Raider’s video game roots. Particularly the 2013 video game reboot, which explored Lara Croft’s origins and evolution into an action hero. “I definitely think there’s a lot of elements there, both honoring the character that people know of and a lot of new elements that they will hopefully be surprised and engaged to see,” Vikander said of the upcoming film.
