“The Voice” Season 13 is here and unfortunately Alicia Keys is not returning to her big red chair. The singer has been a coach on “The Voice” for two seasons and winning the show back in Season 12. The singing competition became more than just another talent search, it also focused on the competition between the coaches. This made Keys a standout during her time on the show.
She brought with her a special ease and magic to her coaching. She soon proved to be a successful mentor when Chris Blue won Season 12. But it looks like Keys stepped away from the show to prioritize being a singer/songwriter.
Alicia Keys Focusing on New Music
Keys spoke to ET last May about her decision to not return to the “The Voice” telling them to expect a follow-up to her 2016 album “Here.” The singer is ready to release new music and since her departure, she kept busy.
The singer emphasized her break from “The Voice” will be spent writing and recording new music. Staying on the show would demand too much time from Keys. The show centers on the mentoring of up-and-coming talents. Despite it being rewarding, Keys felt that a break was needed for her to continue writing music.
According to her social media, Keys has been traveling and performing. She has performed at Rock in Rio, a musical festival in Brazil. She also spent some time with her other musical friends like Nicki Minaj.
Jennifer Hudson as the New Coach on ‘The Voice’
This season’s returning coaches are Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, and Miley Cyrus. Other coaches have left the big red seats while veteran coaches Levine and Shelton remain. Cyrus returns after taking a season off. The next seat filled belongs to award-winning singer Jennifer Hudson.
Hudson is known for her exceptional skills as a singer and actress. Extending her talents to film, television, and Broadway. She also won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Dream Girls.” As well as winning a Grammy Best R&B Album back in 2008. She also has experience being a contestant for a reality singing competition. Hudson was an American Idol contestant, which gives her insight into what it is like being on the other side.
It is not Hudson’s first time as a coach in the reality singing competition. Back in January 2017, Hudson joined the sixth season of “The Voice UK” as a coach. One of her contestants even won that season. The singer will be bringing on Kelly Rowland as her team adviser on the show.
