One of the best mobster film icons of the industry just joined Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Al Pacino has officially been cast for the movie, which is due next year.
According to Variety, Pacino will play Marvin Schwarz, Hollywood star Rick Dalton’s agent. Rick, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is an actor experiencing a rocky career decline in 1969. Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood follows Rick and his stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) as they struggle to stay relevant in an industry that seems to have forgotten them. Incidentally, Rick’s neighbor happens to be Sharon Tate, who’s shocking the entertainment world following the news of her death at the hands of Charles Manson.
Aside from Pacino, Pitt, and DiCaprio, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s ensemble cast includes Margot Robbie, Burt Reynolds, Timothy Olyphant, Kurt Russell, Michael Madsen, Tim Roth, Luke Perry, Emile Hirsch, Clifton Collins, Keith Jefferson and Nicholas Hammond. Earlier this week, it was announced that Damian Lewis and Dakota Fanning would join the roster.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood marks Tarantino’s ninth film, after 2015’s The Hateful Eight. This is the first time that Pacino will collaborate with Tarantino. Pacino, on the other hand, will also appear in Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, which is also due next year. It’s another gangster film from the acclaimed director and is about a mob hitman recalling his involvement in the possible slaying of Jimmy Hoffa.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is slated for release on August 9, 2019.
