It didn’t seem like we were going to get more of Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness after WandaVision, but she’s actually getting her own spinoff show with Agatha: Coven of Chaos on Disney+. With WandaVision being as experimental as it was, it looks like Agatha could be shaking things up as well.
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Patti LuPone confirms that the show will actually have a musical element. With LuPone herself being an accomplished Broadway star, she was asked if the witches in Coven of Chaos would be singing, to which she replies, “They do. Our lead singer is Kathryn (Hahn). I’m singing backup, and the songs have been written by Kristen and Bobby Lopez.” When it comes to LuPone taking the backseat when it comes to the songs, she adds, “I said, ‘Listen, I don’t harmonize. I’ve always been a soprano. I’ve always been on the top line.’ But it’s just been great fun. There’s no CGI either. What I am seeing on this show is craft.”
We don’t know what the story of Coven of Chaos is yet, but we’re expected to watch Agatha’s story before she runs into the Scarlet Witch in WandaVision. Besides LuPone and Hahn, the series also includes Aubrey Plazza, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Enna Caulfield Ford, Sasheer Zamata, and Debra Jo Rupp. Fingers are crossed if we’ll also get an appearance from Wanda as well.
I’ll admit, an Agatha spinoff was the last thing I thought Marvel would work on, but if they decided to push forward with the impressive cast gathered, maybe the series could be a surprise for anyone that’s been skeptical.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos still has no release date, but it’s expected to hit Disney+ sometime this year. I the meantime, you can catch Agatha in WandaVision.
