Roxy comes through Tony’s back door and tells him to ask about her date, and he does, and she says he’s funny, rugged, and rough. The doorbell rings, and Pat comes through Tony’s front door to see if Roxy is there. They eat breakfast together until Lenny comes to get Tony for work.
Matt visits his therapist and hears how he got wasted the other night. Matt tells him that he cried a little bit when he got home. He explains that he thinks he was crying because he doesn’t want t give up on Jill and all he wants to do is beg her for them to go back to how they were. The therapist tells him that begging will not do him any good because women choose their mates based on strength. He advises him to be something he’s not because clearly, who he is right now is not working.
For a feature story, Tony and Lenny interview a woman suing a doctor for a botched surgery. She admits to having something wrong, and Tony tells her it might be an addiction to surgery. She got almost everything done; however, the doctor messed up when she had her lips done, and now she cannot show any emotion. She cannot even cry because even her tear ducts got affected.
Kath asks Matt to sit with her in the am-dram cabaret thing at the office. Matt tells her he cannot be sure yet, but she is persistent. Matt resorts to pretending like he has a meeting with Tony so that he can make Kath go away. He asks Tony to lie about thinking of killing himself again so that she can bail out at Kath’s invitation. Tony refuses to do it.
At the shelter, Tony acts weird around Emma, so Emma tells him that she’s not going to sit and wait for him to make a move. Tony asks her she just had a drink with Simon, and she says yes, but tells Tony that it might not always be just a drink.
Jill brings Matt some sweaters at the office. This surprises him but makes him smile. He asks Jill if she’s going to the cabaret thing and says she plans to go but is yet to find a babysitter for George. Matt tells her that George is allowed to be there, so they can all go together. Jill agrees.
Matt tells Kath that he’ll go to the cabaret with Jill and George. Tony sarcastically tells him that he will kill himself that day. Kath sadly shakes her Kevin Hart snowglobe. Seeing this, Tony asks her to have coffee with him.
Kath asks Tony if she embarrassed herself with Matt at the coffee shop. Tony tells her that being honest with her feeling is not something to be embarrassed about. He comforts her by telling her that someone just got there first and that it is not her fault. He tells her that it’s good that she showed her feelings. He says he wishes he displayed his feelings more with Lisa because there are times when he felt shy holding her hand and replying “I love you too” in public. He shares how Lisa would call him to tell him that she loves him. This brings him to tears yet again. He tells Kath that she’ll meet someone one day and her life will be brilliant.
Tony walks to the graveyard and imagines seeing Lisa around. He gets a bottle of wine and drinks it on his way. He meets Anne there, as usual. She tells him that the last thing he should do is drink alone. She gets the bottle and takes a gulp. He says that Lisa was his greatest achievement and that having her meant he won in life. He says that she misses her so much that when she died, he felt like he lost most of himself, all the good stuff and all the happiness. He says that he feels like he’s nothing. Anne tells him that it is not true. She holds his hands as he cries.
Tony sets up a meeting with Paul. He asks him not to sell the paper and the building because many people rely on it. Paul tells him that he thought of selling because he believes he might kick the bucket soon, and it would be too late. He says it’s not that he needs anything at all, except for the company of a lovely woman that he’s selling. Tony tells him how he struggled after Lisa died and how the people from the paper tried to help him and save him from himself. He says he wanted to do something for them in return, hence their meeting. He suggests that they give it another go, and if things don’t improve, he can sell it the following year. Paul agrees and says that it might be nice to have a challenge again.
Tony goes to the am-dram practice and tells Sandy that Paul has agreed not to close the paper.
Tony watches another video of Lisa. This time, they make fun of their dog, Brandy, by giving her a dildo as a toy.
Our Thoughts
Why do we cry every time Tony brings someone into the coffee shop and shares anecdotes about Lisa? Tony must have loved her so much, and the pain must be unimaginable. Anyway, seeing Jill at the office makes us think that maybe things can still work between her and Matt. Also, are we the only ones who thought of introducing Paul to Anne when he mentioned that he wouldn’t say no to the company of a good woman? Lastly, we’re so happy that the Tambury Gazette will continue its operations. Yay!
