After Life Season 2 Episode 2 Recap

Tony watches a video of Lisa and him dancing at Matt and Jill’s wedding until Brandy asks for her breakfast, and Tony feeds her. Pat rings his doorbell and tells him he got the flatshare. Pat asks about Daphne, who he has seen coming out of Tony’s house. He asks him to introduce her and put in a good word.

Tony comes into Matt’s office to apologize for walking out of the meditation class. Matt asks Tony if he had a drink before the meditation class, and Tony tells him that he used to drink before when he was happy, but now he drinks because he’s sad. Matt tells him that he should seek help, and Tony tells him that being healthy is just like slowly dying, so he shouldn’t be bothered.

Kath butts in and says that the problem with science is everything is based on facts. She says she loves anything paranormal, past lives, telepathy.

Tony visits Lisa’s grave and sees Anne. He tells her that his being zen didn’t entirely work out. Anne tells him about the fable of the frog and the scorpion where the scorpion promises not to sting the frog but then stings it anyway. Tony is convinced he is the scorpion, but Anne tells him that he’s the frog because he’s trusting.

Lenny comes to the office with June and James, her son. James starts his first day of work experience, and Matt welcomes James and introduces himself as the editor.

James asks them if they are covering the am-dram, an amateur dramatics society he’s a part of, and Lenny asks him to make tea instead. Sandy says that Lenny seems happy having a family, and Lenny agrees and says it’s about time he settles down with one woman. He brags about being quite a ladies’ man. Tony makes fun of Lenny again and tells him he looks like a human slug.

Sandy asks them if they’re okay with her covering the am-dram, and Tony tells her they must all go. Brian comes in and gets introduced to James. Lenny tells James he must help Brian with the papers. James tells Brian that he’s got to be out by five because he has rehearsals with the am-dram. Brian asks him if he can join, and James tells him that anyone can join. Brian tells him he’s a puppeteer, and he writes jokes.

At the am-dram rehearsal, the group welcomes Brian. Tony, Lenny, and Sandy walk in to do the interview. Ken, the head of am-dram, introduces himself. He asks the rest of the group to do what they do. Tony sees Rebecca, the widow he dated before. She approaches Tony, and Tony apologizes for the way he acted during their date. Rebecca tells him she enjoyed their encounter.

Matt talks to the therapist, who asks him if Jill was sleeping with another man. When he tells him no, the therapist asks him if he does. He says no, but he tells him that there was a woman at work who told him she liked him, but he’s not interested.

At the am-dram rehearsal, Ken tells the Gazette Team that they should come to him if they want a good story. He begins to say to them that he went to drama school and he taught drama in college. He continues to talk about himself only and even asks Sandy to ghostwrite a gossip column for him.

The therapist gives Matt a bottle of beer and tells him that he’s got to take the opportunities when they offer themselves to him, like Kath at work.

Ken continues to tell the team about having sex with a spirit and paranormal sexual assault. Tony and Lenny leave Sandy with him.

At the shelter, Tony sees Emma having a fun conversation with Simon, the man who called her babe. Tony walks by them and goes straight to his dad. He sees a book that used to belong to his mom. He read some of the lines and gets surprised when his dad joins him. Emma walks in, and Tony tells her that he saw her chatting with Simon and he didn’t want to disturb them. Emma tells him that they’re not an item. Tony apologizes for being a flake and tells her that he’s getting better slowly.

Tony serves Daphne dinner, and when she tastes it, she tells him it’s terrible. He tells her that Lisa used to say to him it tastes good. Daphne tells him that he is the only man ever to cook her a meal, and Tony quickly points out that technically, that meal was the best meal a man ever cooked her. Tony tells her how much he misses Lisa and this nearly brings Daphne to tears.

Tony asks Daphne if she ever wanted a real relationship, and she tells him she wants to have the same relationship as Tony had with Lisa. Tony takes the opportunity to tell Daphne about Pat wishing to meet her. He tells her that he’s homeless, and she tells him there is nothing wrong with being homeless. Daphne agrees to meet him only if Tony tells Pat all about her so they can avoid the weirdness.

Daphne tells Tony she needs to go because she has to eat before going to work.

Meanwhile, Lenny and June do their thing in bed and James just casually asks June about her juggling balls. He kisses June good night while Lenny’s on top of her.

Tony watches a video of Lisa where she shows her bald head, and Tony breaks into tears while telling her she’s beautiful.

Our Thoughts

We’re feeling optimistic about Pat and Daphne. They seem like a good pair. We’re also looking forward to James being a regular at the office because he really could use the experience. Lenny and June really seem to get along, and we’re so very happy for Lenny. The am-dram thing bored us, but at least Brian gets to be a part of something he might genuinely like. Lastly, we’re sad that Emma is drifting away from Tony, but of course, we do not blame her. Lenny’s right, she shouldn’t be waiting forever.
