Here’s the official synopsis:
At once hilarious and horrifying, lyrical and absurd, ordinary and apocalyptic, White Noise dramatizes a contemporary American family’s attempts to deal with the mundane conflicts of everyday life while grappling with the universal mysteries of love, death, and the possibility of happiness in an uncertain world.
The movie is actually based on a book by Don DeLillo with a script that comes from Baumbach himself. Besides Gerwig and Driver, the film also stars Don Cheadle, Raffery Cassidy, and Jodie Turner-Smith.
If you’ve watched Baumbach’s previous work like The Meyerowitz Stories and Marriage Story, you’ll know that he has quite the penchant for family drama. While we do have an odd and quirky family at the core of this film, it’s kind of unusual so see so much fantastically visual elements in the film, which kind of feels unusual for a director like Baumbach. Then again, I’m always up to see what he’s doing next, and I can’t wait to watch this new character that Adam Driver is bringing to life; also, she’s a pretty great director, but it’s also nice to see Gerwig back onscreen ever now and again.
White Noise comes to select theaters on Nov. 26 and premieres on Netflix on Dec. 30.
