‘A Million Little Things’ Season 2 Finale ‘Til Death Do Us Part’ Recap: Starting Over

Nothing says finale like a wedding and a baby. But, boy oh boy, it’s less than happy as it sounds on A Million Little Things. I knew it there was going to be something big, but wow, I certainly didn’t see all that happening in the last act of the episode. For this finale, A Million Little Things really amped the heartbreak. And we’ve got tons of questions that we need to be answered. Are Rome (Romany Malco) and Regina (Christina Moses) going to be alright? Is Eddie (David Giuntoli) going to freaking live? And is it really the end of Gary (James Roday) and Maggie (Allison Miller)? The odds don’t look great. But, well, all we can do is wait. Meanwhile, let’s jump into what happened in the second season finale of A Million Little Things. 

Baby on the Way

Eddie and Katherine’s (Grace Park) vow renewal is here! And everyone has pitched in to help. While Rome and Gary continue to bicker over who’s going to be Eddie’s best man though, Eddie picks neither. Instead, he goes with Theo (Tristan Byon). It’s cute and at the same time hilarious especially the moment Theo tells Rome and Gary to both suck it.

Suddenly, the party is interrupted by the announcement that Eve (Ebboney Wilson) is giving birth. With that, Katherine and Eddie decide to move their vow renewal to the hospital so they could still have their closest people with them. There, the group finally meets Miles (Parker Young), Delilah’s hot EMT boyfriend. And given his charm and manners, the group loves him.

Meanwhile, Rome is, as usual, being Rome and he is a nervous wreck. Everybody’s trying to reassure everybody then suddenly, Eve and the baby’s heart rate starts dropping. And they are immediately rolled into the operating room for an emergency C-section. Fortunately, Miles knows a thing or two about complicated births and provides a knowledgeable and comforting voice to prevent Rome from losing his mind for a while at least.

Confession

While waiting, Maggie finally finds the courage to tell Gary how she feels. She tells him that she still loves him and that she wants him to go to Oxford with her. Unfortunately, Gary wasn’t too happy hearing that. Yes, he has waited for her to tell him those words for a very long time. But, he’s happy now. And for the first time, Maggie isn’t taking up all his thoughts. Now, here she comes dumping all this on him.

To be honest, I get Gary’s point. He and Darcy seem to have a good thing together. She’s the first woman that has made him look so happy aside from Maggie. And it’s a little unfair on his part. But, a part of me still wishes they’d get back together. Their relationship was one of the most genuine in A Million Little Things. 

Anyhow, after apologizing and telling Maggie that she’s too late, Gary walks out. When he returns to the lounge, Darcy immediately notices he’s upset. And when Maggie comes in a minute later looking the same way, she finally pieces it together. Later on, she pulls Gary aside and asks him to make a decision. After all, she’s a single mom. She has no time to play games. So, she wants straight answers.

Baby Jon

A few moments later, Eve gives birth to a healthy baby boy. And Rome and Regina are more than delighted. In fact, it’s like love at first sight. And guess what, after asking permission from Delilah, Rome and Regina decide to name him Jon.

Meanwhile, down by the lobby, Sophie (Lizzy Greene) and Danny (Chance Hurstfield) arrive. They’re looking for a receptionist when they suddenly spot Miles. And, of course, the two immediately has a crush on the guy. At this point, I didn’t know whether to cringe or to laugh out loud. The two even start acting all cutesy for him. Fortunately, Delilah arrives just on time and introduces her “friend.” Their faces plus Danny’s “Oh, OH, hello” are just priceless. Unfortunately, those might just be the only lighthearted part of this episode of A Million Little Things. After this, it’s all downhill.

Betrayed

With everything they’ve gone through to get the baby born safe and sound, you’d think Rome and Regina wouldn’t have any more problems. But, that is just not their luck. When Regina comes back from telling Delilah about the baby’s name, she finds Rome arguing with a nurse. As it turns out, Eve has changed her mind.

As Eve explains, the kindness they showed her and the support from the women’s shelter has made her realize that she could raise the baby on her own. And although she means well, it doesn’t change the fact that Rome and Gina are devastated. At home, Regina crumples the picture of the ultrasound on their fridge. Then, as Rome tries to comfort her, Gina turns to him with pain in her eyes and tells him, “You made me want this.”

The whole process was nervewracking. But, Eve’s decision was a shot to the heart. Rome and Regina hoped. They invested so much in Eve and the baby. They freaking planned to name him Jon for Pete’s sake. They were willing to give their whole lives to this baby and now they’ve just lost him. Just when they had him in their arms, they lose him. I can’t blame Eve either but, it seems that the couple will be having a hard time bouncing back from this tragedy especially Regina. She didn’t want a baby. But, when she changed her mind, it changed everything.

Goodbye

Elsewhere, after her argument with Gary, Maggie decides to head to the airport early for her flight to Oxford. When Gary realizes she left without him being able to say goodbye, he immediately chases after. But, don’t get your hopes up.

Showing up right on time, Gary tells Maggie he can’t lose another “friend.” At that word, the light in Maggie’s eyes dies and she realizes he didn’t come to go with her to Oxford. Instead, Gary tells her he couldn’t let her leave without saying goodbye. He also admits that he loves her too. But, both of them also recognize that their timing is horrible. Gary wants to see where this relationship with Darcy goes. And he wants Maggie to be happy as well. With that, he says his final goodbye and leaves Maggie. Then, he heads over to Darcy’s place.

Despite Gary being so determined to call Maggie a friend, it’s still hard to believe there won’t be any complications with the feelings of these two. But, well, we have to wait and see in the third season of A Million Little Things. 

The Bracelet

On the other hand, while everything’s happening at the hospital, Eddie is dealing with the Alex mystery. While picking up some last-minute stuff for the vow renewal at home, Colleen (Betsy Brandt) shows up at his doorstep. Instead of giving answers as we all wanted her to though, Colleen just tells Eddie to quit reopening old wounds. She does mention something about a bracelet Eddie gave Alex though. And that seems to jug Eddie’s memory a little.

Following the clue, Eddie then calls Lindsay (Sprague Grayden) and asks what she did to his wet clothes the night of the accident. After getting the answer, Eddie immediately heads to the lakehouse and finds them just where Lindsay left them. And lo and behold, in the pocket of his jeans, he finds Alex’s bracelet. That’s when it all comes flooding back.

Unheard Vows

Eddie took Alex on the boat. Somehow, she fell over and when Eddie tried to grab her, the bracelet slipped off her hand. And that’s all he had left of her. Blaming himself and more than devastated, Eddie heads to the nearest bar. He ignores everybody’s calls and orders a drink for the first time in a long time. Just as he’s about to down it though, his old, rambunctious seatmate catches his attention. As the old man saunters away, he slightly trips on Eddie’s chair and somehow, that little thing saves Eddie.

Eddie puts down the glass and heads out the bar while calling Katherine. He tells her he was about to drink but, he dropped it at the last minute. Given that wakeup call, he’s now ready to tell Katherine everything. Also, Eddie wants to do the vows that night even if it’s just the two of them. Just as Katherine says “I love you,” there’s a screech and Eddie gets freaking hit by a car! Then, a black screen.

What a cliffhanger! But, seriously that moment in the bar was tense. A lot of Eddie’s problems revolved around his alcoholism and at that moment, you really don’t know if he was going to take the shot or not. The moment he decided not to was one hell of a redemption move though. But, getting hit by a car? I hope they don’t kill Eddie off though. That would be too much and it would leave a bad taste for this season.

‘A Million Little Things’ Season 2 Overall Verdict

Season 2 of A Million Little Things was a whirlwind of drama. And when it comes to that front, the show managed to mostly outdo itself this season. The first half of the season was strong. That PJ storyline was great. But, the show, unfortunately, has a habit of leaving threads and storylines senseless at the end. For instance, the PJ storyline was completely dropped after that nervewracking midseason finale. And then no more mention of him.

Another thing is that the show also has a habit of introducing plotlines that really don’t go anywhere. Take for example the part with Gary’s mom. There was no mention of her afterward and no progress. It was left in the air.  When it comes to mysteries too, it’s not the show’s strong suit. The Alex mystery, although gripping, felt half-baked.

Despite all that, A Million Little Things has still earned a place in our hearts. It has one lovely cast and the occasional bout of good tv drama. With all that this finale has left behind, it makes me excited for what will come next. The challenges are no joke. My only hope is that the show tightens up its storytelling. Hopefully, the third season can trump its predecessors.
