‘A Million Little Things’ Season 2, Episode 18 ‘Mothers and Daughters’ Review: Baby Shower

One thing this week’s episode of A Million Little Things titled “Mothers and Daughters” reminded me is how wonderful the people in it are. Even the newer characters are amazing! Eve (Ebboney Wilson) is remarkable, Darcy (Floriana Lima) is fantastic, and even Lindsay (Sprague Grayden) is quickly growing on me. The thing is, with how this episode went, I don’t think everybody’s getting a happy finale.
For one, it seems that Eddie (David Guintoli) has had more to do with Alex’s death than he remembers. And then, there’s Maggie (Allison Miller). Gary (James Roday) seems to be trying to move on with Darcy but, oh dear Maggie isn’t. The others, meanwhile, are still on neutral grounds. But, I’m betting by next week’s finale, we’ll have a little shakeup. Is it for the better or the worse? Well, we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, here’s what happened in this week’s episode of A Million Little Things.
Alex
Eddie’s life probably is one of the topmost dramatic in the group in A Million Little Things. He cheated on his best friend. He had a kid with his best friend’s wife. And now, he might possibly be involved in the death of their childhood friend Alex. Last week, Lindsay sprung up the question about that fateful night. And now, it has consumed Eddie. The thing is Eddie could only remember so little from that night.
In his memory, he and Lindsay were drinking and doing coke with Alex and her sister Colleen by the beach. Then, around midnight, he and Lindsay went back inside the house. As it turns out, that last part was a lie that Lindsay told him. The truth is she left him with Alex. Then, when she came back a few hours later, Lindsay found her brother passed out and soaking wet. The next morning, the police were pulling Alex’s dead body from the lake.
With this revelation, Eddie tries to call Colleen. But, she hastily hangs up on him and tells him to never call again. So, Eddie decides to go to the lakehouse with Lindsay.
Lakeside Missing Memories
While Eddie’s out, Katherine’s (Grace Park) holding the fort down on her own. She’s making repairs to her wedding dress, decorating her new office, attending baby showers, and calling up old clients. Seriously, what can this woman not do? She’s doing all these big things all at once. But, she’s nonetheless more stressed out by the vows renewal. That is also the biggest reason Eddie wants to get to the bottom of the Alex mystery. He doesn’t want to screw them up again.
On the ride to the lakehouse though, Eddie gets upset at his sister and blames her for everything that’s going wrong in his life at that moment. But, essentially, it does nothing for him. When they get to the place, nothing really triggers Eddie’s memory. He admits that he can’t tell whether he can’t really remember it or he’s just willing himself not to deep down. In the end, they’re chased off the property by Alex’s father. The parting statement he leaves Eddie is “How dare you come back here after everything you’ve done?” And that’s that for this storyline on “Mothers and Daughters.”
I do hope A Million Little Things won’t let the season end without addressing this. This is huge! And it could unravel the Seville’s lives more than Eddie’s infidelity. Poor Eddie can’t really get a break.
Gina’s Baby Shower
Meanwhile, it’s baby shower time for Regina (Christina Moses). Everyone is doubly excited much more so her mom Shelly (Romy Rosemont). But, when she finds out that Regina also invited Eve, she finds it a little weird. Eve almost doesn’t come but, when she does, she turns around Shelly’s judgment. And she makes her understand the special relationship between her, Regina, and Rome (Romany Malco). All throughout the episode actually, Eve changes a lot of minds for the better. And that’s why I love her.
Speaking of Rome though, while the baby shower is in full swing, he and the boys are out car shopping. He’s trading in the sports car for a family car. But, when he overhears a son and father arguing nearby, he balks. As he overhears the argument escalating, he finally decides to back out of the car deal.
Rome goes home upset. And as it turns out, the reason he’s hesitating all of a sudden is that he’s doubting himself. He breaks down in front of Gina. And he explains that he’s worried about not being able to be a good father to their child. He even thinks that Eve might’ve made the wrong decision trusting him.
Parting
Fortunately, Eve overhears Rome and reassures him. She even tells him that part of the reason she’s so confident in her decision is because of Rome. Before she leaves, Eve gives the happy couple a gift: the baby’s gender. As Rome and Gina savor the moment, Eve turns to leave. And sadly, this might be her goodbye from Rome and Gina’s lives.
Gina makes a move to stop her. But, as Eve explains, she’s gotten too close to them. And this makes the birth a lot harder. So, she has decided to take the first move and part ways with them. As she leaves, Rome and Regina make no move to follow. They know and they understand.
Eve was such a wonderful character. And honestly, I’m not sure if I want her to leave A Million Little Things or not. But, with the way things are going, I think she made the right choice. Now, we’ll just see how it goes at the birth.
Moving On
Elsewhere on A Million Little Things, two people are getting a move on in their romantic lives. And I’m not sure whether to love it or hate it. For one, Delilah (Stephanie Szostak) has taken another chance with Miles (Parker Young). They went on a real date this time. When Sophie (Lizzy Greene) discovers that her mom has a new friend, the initial reaction, of course, is betrayal. The mother and daughter haven’t fully healed yet from their trust issues. But, fortunately, Delilah manages to turn it around. She admits the reason she didn’t tell her daughter about Miles is that she herself doesn’t know what it is yet. She’s just as confused. Placated, Sophie soon turns to tease her mother.
On the other hand, things are heating up between Gary and Darcy. But, neither has revealed their relationship. On a visit to deliver a present for Katherine’s new office though, Darcy admits the truth to her friend. Later on, while Darcy’s helping Katherine patch up her electricity, Maggie stops by to deliver some artworks. And the two get along smoothly. Neither of them realizes that their main connecting thread actually isn’t Katherine. It’s Gary. But, maybe that’s for the better.
Truth and Vulnerability
A while after Maggie leaves, Gary stops by Katherine’s unfinished office. And he and Darcy hang out for some time. When they accidentally get locked in a closet though, Darcy suffers from a panic attack triggered by her PTSD from her time in the military. When Darcy finally gets around to talking about it, she admits that it’s a side of her she doesn’t want people to see. Instead of consoling her through words, Gary simply puts his arms around her and holds her close.
Later on, while on a short supply run, it’s Gary’s turn to confess. He tells Darcy about Maggie. And he admits that she broke his heart. Instead of drawing a wedge between them, this show of honesty and vulnerability actually brings them closer.
That night, Gary heads home with Darcy after deciding to order in. And guess who sees them walking through the door all sweet and all? Maggie. All the packing and the moving has reminded her too much of when she moved into Gary’s place. And at one point, she probably decided to just go for it and tell Gary that she still loves him. But, there it was, Gary trying to move on, right in front of her eyes. Seriously these two. No other relationship makes me feel as frustrated and heartbroken. Anyhow, that’s it for the pregame before the finale.
A Million Little Things continues Thursday, March 26th, with “Til Death Do Us Part” at 9/8c on ABC.
