'A Million Little Things' Season 1, Episode 14 'Someday' Recap: The Start of Healing

The past few weeks in A Million Little Things were quite intense. Pretty much everybody has dealt with deep, heartbreaking pitfalls. And the reveal that Jon (Ron Livingston) had a secret life that holds the answers to the questions everybody’s been asking has directly set life’s pace for everyone else a few steps back. Well, that and the massive debt that almost kicked Jon’s family to the streets. As said earlier, it was quite the train of intense episodes. Good and utterly heartbreaking, touching, well-made but, intense. And there’s more.

In this week’s episode of A Million Little Things titled “Someday,” the focus is on Regina (Christina Marie Moses). Her restaurant is opening. But, a surprise revelation from her mother almost puts all her plans on permanent stop. Apparently, the money her mother invested in her restaurant is from an uncle who Regina has avoided her whole life because of a dark past. And now, he’s trying to help.

Meanwhile, Delilah (Stephanie Szostak) is trying to help out on securing the restaurant’s liquor permit last minute through connecting with a probable suitor. On the other hand, Gary (James Roday) is trying to keep everyone else happy. He’s being the very doting boyfriend to Maggie (Allison Miller). He’s trying to get Eddie (David Giuntoli) laid. And he’s also looking for Barbara Morgan. Now, who’s being the hero?

Opening Jitters

Gary finds Barbara Morgan’s address and goes to the place. However, he doesn’t find Barbara. The woman, under the name Nelson, who answers mentions that a woman, probably Ashley, also came looking for Barbara and asking about Jon. As the woman said, Barbara might’ve lived there but, perhaps a long time ago.

Three months later, Eddie comes home from tour. And the guys update him. Maggie is on her last round of chemo before her operation. Gary hired a private investigator to look for Barbara Morgan. And Regina’s restaurant is opening. But, the one thing Rome (Romany Malco) and Gary zero on is Eddie’s sexless tour. And Gary makes it his personal mission to get Eddie laid.

Meanwhile, Regina’s restaurant is already struggling even before it opens. The bartenders quit because there’s still no liquor permit and certificate of occupancy. And Regina’s mom Shelly (Romy Rosemont) is still breathing down her neck. To make things worse, Regina gets upset and panicky when she finds out that Shelly told her uncle Neil about the restaurant opening. Thankfully, he’s not coming to the opening.

In the back room, Maggie finds Delilah stalking the man from the gas station, Andrew Pollock (James Tupper). Apparently, he’s not just a simple bar owner but, a restaurant chain owner. And Maggie is all for Delilah reaching out to him, even if it were just to get Regina’s liquor permit fast.

A while later, Regina receives an email from Uncle Neil. She finds out that her mother had given him her address and contact details. And she goes ballistic on Shelly right in the middle of preparations before walking out.

Penny from the Old

Delilah follows Regina out and eventually manages to get her back into the kitchen a little calmer. But, it’s with the promise of handling the missing paperwork. Meanwhile, as Rome and Maggie try to make the spoons spotless upon Shelly’s request, Maggie carefully brings up Rome’s time off from his anti-depressants. He insists that he wants to feel in control and Maggie hesitantly gives up the topic.

Meanwhile, Gary lets Eddie meet Joanna (Lindsey Gort), the private investigator he hired. And coincidentally, Joanna is a Red Ferns fan. But going back to business, she hasn’t found their Barbara Morgan. And no art gallery has recently touched an artwork by B. Morgan. As Joanna starts to joke around about getting a backstage pass if she finds her, Gary starts doing the ‘sex signal’ he made up for Eddie. But, Eddie quickly sweeps it under the rug. On Delilah’s side, things are looking up. Andrew and Delilah are connecting and Andrew’s being agreeable on the whole matter.

Back at the restaurant, things are continually getting worse between Regina and her mom. Regina finds out that the money her mother invested in her restaurant, the money that gave life to the restaurant, was all from her uncle, Neil. Shelly tries to defend her brother but, Regina doesn’t want to hear any of it. As she passes by Delilah and Andrew on the way out, she announces that they’re giving back every penny her mother gave. And the restaurant will never open with Regina involved.

Dark Secrets

With Regina gone, Dalilah and the others try to patch up the restaurant. Gary finally meets Andrew, and he definitely does not like him. He doesn’t bother to hide it too. Andrew gets the liquor license secured and even calls his guy to fix up the mismatched tablecloths for the restaurant.

As for Eddie, he and Joanna get a little flirty, and they do eventually make out. But, Eddie cuts it short, choosing to stop the rebound move on Joanna. Later on, Joanna receives a call from her office. And she, Gary, and Eddie find out that a gallery had recently shown works by an artist named B. Morgan.

On the other hand, Rome enlists Maggie’s help to get through to Regina. And Regina willingly starts to tell her story. When she was 12, she wasn’t invited to a dance she really wanted to go to. The sting of rejection made her seek for comfort. And her Uncle Neil was there. When he told her to take off her shirt, she did. When he touched her, she let him. Regina was and is dreadfully ashamed. But, Maggie makes it clear to her the difference between the actions of ‘let’ and ‘did.’ It was a sexual assault no matter how you look at it. Regina was molested. And when Regina told her mother about what happened the next day, Shelly told her that she might’ve misunderstood, that her uncle was only consoling her. As Regina lets out the grief she’s been holding for too long, Rome and Maggie stay by her side and offer her real and true comfort.

The next day, Regina firmly decides to face her uncle. Rome allows her to go on the condition that he goes and they bring Maggie for backup.

Justice Missed

On the ride to Neil, Regina admits that she wants him to own up to what he did and apologize. But, Maggie warns her that he might not do exactly that. Regina keeps her resolve firm, however, no matter what he might say.

At the restaurant, Andrew arrives brandishing the new liquor certificate. Plus, he’s also got them, two new bartenders. However, Regina’s radio silence is starting to worry Delilah. At the hospital, Rome distracts the nurse while Maggie hacks into the system and gets Neil’s room number. But, when Regina gets there, she finds out her uncle passed away a few hours earlier.

Later on, Shelly arrives, and Regina tries to flee. But, Maggie stops her in her tracks. She explains that if Neil did that to his niece, it’s not far fetched that he’s doing it to other girls too including his little sister. And this might’ve stopped Shelly from being by Regina’s side because facing Regina’s truth would mean facing her own truth. Realization dawns on Regina, and she meets her mother outside to talk. As Rome and Maggi watch the tearful exchange between the mother and daughter, Rome tells Maggie that he’s going back on the meds.

In town, Gary and Eddie swing by the gallery to take a look at the last painting left there by the artist B. Morgan. Luckily, it was mislabeled and wasn’t sold off. The pair finds out that all the paintings by B. Morgan were bought by Jon and it was all sent to the very apartment Gary went to earlier.

Later on at the restaurant, Andrew finalizes the certificate of occupancy. And Gary is on him again like a hound. Andrew notes Gary’s dislike of him and in response, Gary says he doesn’t like anything that’s too good to be true.

New Beginnings Start With Healing

Later on, Andrew leaves and tips off Delilah on Gary’s savage behavior towards him. And Delilah immediately confronts Gary. She realizes he’s been trying to control everyone. And as he realizes it too, he simply admits that he can’t lose her referring to Maggie.

As everything settles down, the restaurant opening goes into full swing. Regina firmly takes hold of the reigns. And her friends do their best to help her in any way. Gary is a waiter. Rome is a maître d’. And Eddie is sentenced to be a dishwasher.

Outside, as Delilah and Maggie stand by the crowd, Maggie notices that Delilah has taken off her ring. And Delilah did it not for anyone else but herself. Maggie then barges into the kitchen like a giddy teenage girl and convinces Regina to take a peek at her happy customers. Soon, Regina is pushed outside, and the people start applauding the star of the night. After the celebrations, Regina and her mom take a moment to themselves to acknowledge the ups and downs in their relationship. And Regina cooks her mom her favorite scallops.

Back at the Nelsons’ apartment, the woman who talked to Gary earlier plugs in an SD card, and the self-recorded video of Jon pops up on the screen. When a kid calls out to her, she slips the card back into an envelope labeled B. Morgan. And just as she stands, the painting behind her reveals the name of the artist, B. Morgan.

A Million Little Things continues next Wednesday, February 14th, with “The Rock” at 10/9c on ABC.
