With Elizabeth Banks starting to do more work behind the camera, the actor-turned-director’s next film focuses on a ridiculous plot inspired by a true story that happened back in the 80s.
Here’s the first official trailer for Cocaine Bear:
The official description reads:
Inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner’s plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it, this wild thriller finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500- pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow … and blood.
Like I said, Banks is the one in the director’s chair for the film, and she also has quite the stellar cast for the movie. Besides Keri Russell, Margo Martindale, and O’Shea Jackson, the film also has Alden Ehrenreich, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Kristofer Hivju.
I guess it’s also worth noting that the late Ray Liotta is also in the movie; and this will be his final film released after his death. I mean, it’s not Goodfellas or Marriage Story, but it does look like a lot of fun—in a comedy/slasher kind of way.
Though Banks’ last film—Charlie’s Angels—didn’t get the attention it was aiming for, I’m always up to see what Banks has in store for the future. I think she’s a great talent, and I’m here to see just how her director’s career is going to grow over the years.
Cocaine Bear is set to hit cinemas on Feb. 24, 2023.
