5 Things to Know About Haven’s Season 5 Premiere

Haven returns for an explosive fifth season from September 11.
Fans can expect the premiere episode “See No Evil” to pick up straight after the events of the season 4 cliffhanger which saw William banished from Haven forever.
But what happened to Jennifer? Who is Mara? What’s up with Duke’s eyes and how much should Nathan and Duke reveal to bullet magnet Dwight about Mara’s origins and Duke’s family history?
ScreenSpy had the opportunity to catch the fifth season premiere a little early in prep for our interview with series stars Emily Rose and Lucas Bryant last week. In celebration of the fifth season, we’ve put together a “5 Things to Know” piece on Thursday’s first new episode.
If you’re a regular ScreenSpy reader then you’ll know our aim is never to outright spoil you with facts that will ruin your viewing experience. As such, there are no major spoilers in our report below … just some juicy tidbits and teasers on what’s ahead. We promise!

1. Third Time’s a Charm?
Haven is about to lose a familiar landmark … and it won’t be coming back. You can catch the explosive moment in the opening scene – which also features baby Aaron.
2. Haven Shipping News
The season premiere finds both Duke and Nathan desperate to locate the women in their lives. Where is Jennifer hiding, and why? And how much of Audrey resides in her cruel alter-ego Mara? Crocker and Wuornos are determined to find out. Expect plenty of angsty moments ahead, Haven shippers!
And in a less savoury reveal, you can also expect to see several cans of whoop-ass opened on Dwight and Nathan. Bruised egos are the least of our heros’ worries.
3. On a Scale of 1 to 10, How Bad is Mara Really?
Mara is the person responsible for brining the Troubles to Haven, and she’s not feeling particularly repentant about it. Having inherited Audrey’s body (along with all of her memories, and Lucy and Sara’s too), Mara’s single ambition is to reach William. The season premiere does an excellent job at setting up this cruel and single-minded character and her interactions with Nathan are particularly enjoyable horrible.
“My name is Mara, and stop staring at me with those wet eyes,” she snaps at Nathan seconds into a tearful reunion. (The tears are all on his side. FYI.)
The question many fans – along with Nathan – are asking at this point is this. If Mara has Audrey’s memories, isn’t there a small part of her that is still Audrey, and can therefore be reached by someone who loves her?
We wondered the same thing. You’ll get your shocking answer in the episode’s final scene.
4. The Trouble with Troubles
As if finding Audrey/Mara and Jennifer isn’t worrisome enough, Dwight, Nathan and Duke suddenly find themselves embroiled in a new and gruesome Trouble when random citizens suddenly find their eyes and mouths have been sewn shut with leather sutures that are impossible to remove.
While Mara claims she can bring Troubles raining down on the town with the help of William’s black goo, there’s something about this one that doesn’t quite make sense. With Mara single-mindedly pursuing her own agenda, it appears this particular Trouble may be coming from someone else.
As it turns out, the answer is closer to home than we think, and the repercussions are enormous for one of our own.
5. What Happens in the Cave Stays in the Cave
Dwight and Nathan’s communication issues are hampering their mutual interests in the opening episode. With Nathan determined to hide Mara’s true identity from Dwight, it may be up to Duke to tell Dwight who she really is, and reveal more about his own family history in doing so. Divided, our gang will surely be conquered by forces they don’t yet understand. They’re going to need to lean on each other going forward.
Haven’s “See No Evil” airs Thursday September 11 at 8 PM (ET/PT) on Syfy.
