Apple TV+’s musical comedy series Schmigadoon! had been a love letter to classic musicals from the 50s, but the show is ready to move up the broadway timeline with the second season.
Enter the racy town of Schmicago in the latest trailer for Schmigadoon! 2:
Here’s the official description:
Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong) miss the magic they felt in Schmigadoon and in an attempt to return, find themselves in Schmicago—the reimagined world of ’60s and ’70s musicals. The new season will include new original musical numbers from co-creator and executive producer Cinco Paul, as well as returning stars Cecily Strong, Keegan-Michael Key, Ariana DeBose, Martin Short, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, and Aaron Tveit with the addition of Tituss Burgess and Patrick Page.
As the description suggests, the show is now going to move forward in the musical theater timeline, and instead of influences from films like Mary Poppins and The Music Man, we’re now going to the racier shows, particularly Chicago, with all the burlesque outfits and scandalous drama.
Like American Horror Story, the rest of the cast from the previous season is coming back, but this time they’ll be playing different characters. With Schmigadoon! Having managed to assemble quite the ensemble of performers, you can bet that the second season is also going to feature a lot of great musical numbers. I mean, after their Emmy win last year, you can bet Schmigadoon! has a title to keep.
The second season of Schmigadoon! comes to Apple TV+ on April 5.
