'13 Reasons Why' Season 2 Trailer Drops, Teases Darker Times for Liberty High School

Life in Liberty High School will never be the same again. Following Hannah Baker’s (Katherine Langford) death, the students indirectly involved in Hannah’s suicide are confronted with a heavy burden to bear. Season 2 of Netflix’s hit teen drama “13 Reasons Why” just dropped its trailer, and none could ever be more disturbing than what we’ve seen in the first season.

The show has always been dark from the get-go, but things take an even broodier tone for “13 Reasons Why” Season 2. The trailer starts out showing the fallout of Hannah’s death, with each of the involved parties shown trying to deal with guilt and trauma. Clay (Dylan Minnette), who was the last one to receive Hannah’s tapes, is still visibly suffering from trauma—but anger towards the people mentioned in the tapes brews stronger in him.

A picture falls out from Clay’s locker, signaling the start of the darker days ahead. During “13 Reasons Why’s” first season finale, we saw Tyler Down (Devin Druid) developing photos of his “friends” and building a chest full of weapons. It’s unclear if Tyler will go rogue and become a school shooter, but the show heavily implies it (although not seen in the trailer). Should “13 Reasons Why” take on this path, then this is definitely going to shock audiences and spark another batch of controversies.

The trailer goes on to show how each of the people involved dealing with the repercussions of the last season’s incidents. Bryce’s (Justin Prentice) reputation as a rapist is exposed, Jessica (Alisha Boe) stands up to testify against Bryce, Tony (Christian Navarro) goes out of his way to investigate with a new friend. Meanwhile, Ryan (Tommy Dorfman) and Alex (Miles Heizer) suffer an emotional breakdown, while most of the jocks are still the assholes of Liberty High (we’re looking at you, Zach Dempsey).

However, the pervading question remains—will there be justice for Hannah Baker? Find out when “13 Reasons Why” Season 2 premieres Friday, May 18th, on Netflix.
